Live Performance of "Samuel" a Success

The first live Production of "Desperately Seeking Samuel" took place before a small but enthusiastic audience in early July in Ontario cottage country. A second production for a larger audience has been requested for the Dickinson Island Summer Theatre. This is a private theatre set up for local cottagers in the Parry Sound area. The playwright says he was pleasantly surprised by the response as he had been concerned people on vacation (and some local residents) might find it depressing. However, they quickly became engaged by the character's unfolding memory of his life. One audience member said that it was, for her, an allegory about a descent into darkness and a gradual awakening into self-awareness and self-esteem.  The play runs a little over one hour, which is shorter than the film version at one hour and eighteen minutes.
